Burt County, Nebraska

The Burt County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tekamah.

The County is located in Eastern Nebraska and bordered by Iowa, from which it is separated by the Missouri River. The Burt County has an area of 1287 square kilometers, of which 11 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Burt County was formed in 1854 as one of the nine Orignalcountys of Nebraska. It was named after Francis Burt (1807-1854), the first governor of the Nebraska Territory (1854 ).

According to the census in 2000 lived in Burt County 7,791 people in 3,155 households and 2,240 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.63 percent White, 0.18 percent African American, 1.07 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.22 percent from other races groups; 0.69 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.26 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.

Of the 3,155 households out of which 29.5 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.3 percent were married couples living together, 6.2 percent were single mothers, 29.0 percent were non-families, 26.5 percent of all households and 15.6 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size is 2.93.

Based on the county the population was spread from 25.7 percent population under 18 years, 5.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 23.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 21.8 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 33,954, and the median income for a family was $ 40,515. Males have a median income of $ 28,750, women $ 20,663. The per capita income was $ 16,654. 6.6 percent of families and 8.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 11.8 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years old and 8.3 percent are 65 years old.
