The bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus ) is an antelope living in Africa.

Description

Color and pattern of these antelope vary greatly by region, to reddish brown from light to dark brown as well as some bright spots to numerous white spots and stripes. All animals have a distinctive white mark on the neck and chest, which varies depending on the subspecies. The males have 50 cm long, sharp curved horns and a mane running along the spine. These can be placed upright on display.

The adult animals reach a body length of 1.1 to 1.5 m and a weight between 25 and 80 kg with a shoulder height of 75-110 cm. Males are significantly larger and darker than females.

Dissemination

The distribution of animals is the Sub-Saharan Africa. Among other things, they are in the Addo Elephant National Park, St. Lucia, Hluhluwe / Umfolozi, Kruger, Moremi, Chobe, Mana Pools, Kafue, South Luangwa, Nyika, Upemba, Arusha, Lake Manyara, Mudumu, Ngorongoro, Ruwenzori, Virunga, Garamba to find Queen Elizabeth, Mount Elgon, Marsabit, Samburu, Meru, Mount Kenya, Aberdare, Maasai Mara and Nairobi. An unusual settlement of the bush goat found in the Calauit Game Preserve in 1976 and Wildlife Sanctuary in the Philippines. It is the only population of bushbuck outside Africa.

Habitat

Your preferred habitat is forests and bushes near water. They also live in wooded ravines along dried-up watercourses. In mountain forests of the bushbuck reached altitudes of up to 4000 meters. Occasionally, visit the animals, the peripheral zones of towns and gardens.

Way of life

This antelope lives mostly solitary or in pairs. It is diurnal as well as nocturnal and feeds on leaves, shoot tips, grasses, herbs and fruits. Bushbuck move sent into the thickest vegetation, where they leave behind tunnel-like change. Often they are looking for on the water to swim. In distress they jump up and give out a howl that resembles the barking of dogs. After a gestation period of 7 ½ months, only one young is set.
