Butachlor is a chemical compound selected from the group of the acetanilides.
Production and representation
Butachlor may be prepared by reaction of chloroacetyl chloride with the azomethine of 2,6- diethyl aniline and formaldehyde, followed by treatment with n-butanol.
Properties
Butachlor is a light yellow liquid with a faint sweet odor, which is slightly soluble in water. It is stable to UV light and hydrolysis in the pH range of 3, 6 and 9, you may decompose at temperatures of 165 ° C and above.
Use
Butachlor is used as a selective herbicide against grass and broadleaf weeds.
Butachlor was not included in the list of permitted in the European Union pesticide active ingredients. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no plant protection products containing this active ingredient are allowed.
