Butha -Buthe (also Buta -Buthe ) is the capital of the district Butha -Buthe in northern Lesotho.

History

The city was founded in 1884. Owes its name to the city of the northern Butha -Buthe Mountain. Butha -Buthe comes from the Sesotho and means place of depositing. The Butha -Buthe Mountain was used until 1824 by King Moshoeshoe I. as a fortress during the war with Zulu king Shaka. 2004, the city had around 10,000 inhabitants.

Infrastructure

Today Butha -Buthe is a regional center with shops, markets, gas stations, banks and hospitals.

Traffic

Butha -Buthe is located at the northern end of the North One, emanating from the capital Maseru main road link to the north of the country. The place is seen as a starting point for the pass road to Oxbow ( with ski ), Mokhotlong and Sani Pass.

Religions

In addition to some churches has Butha -Buthe on the only mosque in Lesotho.
