Butler County (Iowa)

The Butler County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 14 867 inhabitants and a population density of 9.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Allison.

Geography

The County is located in the central northeastern Iowa and has an area of 1,506 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Butler County was designated as a free on 15 January 1851 - but in reality populated by Indians - formed territory. It was named after the Kentucky originating William Orlando Butler (1791-1880), a general and hero in the Mexican War, the 1848 candidate for the office of Vice President of the United States.

Until 1854 the county from other counties was administered. From this point on, it had enough of their own citizens to make their own administration. The first trial was held in a small log cabin of a settler. It was not until 1858 the first courthouse was completed in Clarksville. Shortly afterwards the county administration was moved, it served from 1863 to 1903 as a school.

As in 1878, the railway line of Dubuque and Dakota Railroad was built up according to Allison, he was transferred on 10 January 1881 the seat of government there. Allison was named after a native of Dubuque Republican politicians, lawyers and U.S. Senator William B. Allison.
