Butler County (Kentucky)

Butler County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Morgantown, which was named after Daniel Morgan Smith, the first born in this area white kid. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Kentucky, is in the south about 50 miles from Tennessee, located in the north about 70 miles from Indianapolis and has an area of 1118 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Ohio County, Grayson County, Edmonson County, Warren County, Logan County and Muhlenberg County.

History

Butler County was formed on January 18, 1810 from parts of Logan County and Ohio County. It was named after Richard Butler, a general in the American Revolutionary War.
