Butler Township is a township in southern Luzerne County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It has 9,000 inhabitants (conditions 2010) in an area of 87.1 km ².

At the 1784 by John Balliet founded Township include the villages of Beech Mountain Lakes, Drums, Edgewood, Kis -Lyn, Nescopeck Pass ( partly in Dorrance Township ), St. Johns and Sand Spring.

In 1928 Spirit of St. Louis landed a year after their Atlantic crossing on the airfield of St. Johns and drums.
