Butmir culture

The Butmir culture is an archaeological culture of the Neolithic period, near Ilidža, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has a unique ceramic and is one of the most researched cultures of Europe from the period 2600-2400 BC.

Numerous traces of human settlements have been discovered and excavated in 1893 and 1896. The ceramics found there are now in the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Certain characteristics of the Butmir ceramic ( eg similarities to Minoan ceramics) have raised the possibility that a connection to the Minoan civilization on Crete was.

The culture disappeared during the Bronze Age, probably it was conquered by the Illyrians, who inhabited this area at this time.
