Butyronitrile is a liquid, on earth do not naturally occurring chemical compound and the nitrile of butyric acid.

Representation

Butyronitrile may be represented by the hydrocyanation of propylene with hydrogen cyanide. The reaction of 1 -propyl bromide with sodium cyanide or other alkali metal cyanides ( Kolbe nitrile synthesis ) provides butyronitrile.

Occurrence

Butyronitrile was detected by astronomers in addition to amino acetonitrile and ethyl formate in a dense, hot gas cloud in the star forming region Sagittarius B2 spectroscopy.

Toxicity

Butyronitrile can via the respiratory tract, the digestive tract and especially on the skin are included. In cases of poisoning to show similar symptoms as with cyanide, but delayed in comparison.
