BV Chemnitz 99

The BV Chemnitz 99 (Basketball Association Chemnitz 99) is a basketball club based in Chemnitz.

History

The result of the club in 1999 as " BV Chemnitz 99" by the merger of the clubs " BG Chemnitz " and " Lok Chemnitz ". In 2001, the "TU " in the name, on the basis of a cooperation with the Technical University of Chemnitz. In the summer of 2002, the separation of men's (BV Chemnitz 99) and the women's area ( ChemCats ) followed. From 99 in the club name, the nickname for the Niners first men's team has developed over the last years.

Meanwhile, the cooperation with the Technical University of Chemnitz was released and the club has been known since the 2007/ 08 season again " BV Chemnitz 99". In advance of the 2008/2009 season of the economic business of the Bundesliga team was spun off into a corporation ( Niners Chemnitz GmbH). The Niners have been playing for the 2002/2003 season in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga South and have in the season 03/ 04 to 6 and 04 /05 has the 7th Place. In the season 05/ 06 Chemnitz occupied the 3rd place. As a fifth in the final table of the 2006/2007 season they qualified for the newly created single-track ProA league. In the 2007/2008 season the team finished only 15th place in the table and was therefore one of two sporting losers in the ProB league, but since the SOBA Dragons Rhöndorf gave back their ProA certificate at the end of the season to the AG 2.BBL, these were subsequently declared to technical relegated and the license was transferred to the BV Chemnitz 99. Thus, the Niners were able to compete in the ProA in the 2008/2009 season, which was completed on the 7th place in the table. The consolidation could be continued in the 2009/2010 season, which also ended for the Niners at the 7th place in the table.

In the season 2010/2011 the best result the club's history was achieved. Chemnitz finished the season at No. 3 and thus narrowly missed the sporting rise in the basketball league. Also 2011/2012 the club was able to close the regular season at No. 3 of the table and thus qualify for the playoffs. There, however, they lost against the Dusseldorf Baskets in the quarterfinals 3-1.

In the season 2012/2013 the team achieved the worst result since 2008 and reached number 10 in the end only the playoffs as a goal for the season was thus missed. As of 2013, funded by an anonymous sponsor three full-time youth coach for the next ten years with the sum of one million euros.

Venue and Fans

Home of the Niners is the Richard -Hartmann -Halle in Chemnitz, it was opened on 16 August 2002 and has about 2600 spectators ( sitting and standing) place. Construction costs amounted to around 10 million euros.
