BWIA West Indies Airways was an airline of the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago.

History

The internationally operating company was founded in 1940 as the British West Indian Airways and was a privately held company with 2588 employees, headquartered in Port of Spain. Main shareholder was the government with 75%. It took place daily around 70 flights, with annual 8100 tons of cargo were transported. Every year, 1.4 million passengers were transported. BWIA generated around 276 million U.S. dollars per year Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was last Brenda Billy.

BWIA West Indies Airways entertained hubs at the Piarco International Airport Piarco (Trinidad ), at the Grantley Adams International Airport (Barbados ) and at the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua. The call sign was West Indian. The frequent flyer program called Club Bwee.

End of 2006, the airline a flight operations. In early 2007 took over the native to Trinidad & Tobago Caribbean Airlines all flights to Caribbean destinations. The employees were given new contracts.
