Bwiti

Bwiti is a decentralized syncretic religion that is practiced in Gabon and adjacent areas of neighboring countries, especially in Cameroon, by the Mitsogo and fishing.

The Bwiti cult emerged in its present form, mid-19th century and the influence of mix of various African nature religions such as animism and ancestor worship with teachings of Christianity. Probably Bwiti was also to define their own cultural identity in times of colonization and missionary work by Europeans and protect.
