A bylina or byline (Russian Былина ) refers to a medieval Russian heroic song, folk song or a folk tale with mythological elements ( epic ).

Among the most important byliny include the Song of Igor, Sadko, the epic of the Battle of the Don, Ilya Muromets, Prince Roman, Khan Otrok and the Dragon Forest and The story of the life and courage of the pious and great prince Alexander (meaning Alexander Nevsky ).
