Byron Beck

A. Byron Beck ( born January 25, 1945 in Ellensburg, Washington ) is a retired American professional basketball player.

Career

The 2.06 meter tall Centre of the University of Denver was one of six players (along with Louie Dampier, Gerald Govan, Bob Netolický, Stew Johnson and Freddie Lewis), which in all nine seasons ( 1967-1976 ), the professional basketball league ABA participated. He played for the Denver Rockets, the later Denver Nuggets (NBA). Beck did not have outstanding athleticism, but was a hard worker, known for tenacity and an efficient Hookshot. He represented Denver in two All- Star Games (1969 and 1976).

Beck also played one season in the NBA with the Nuggets. He went into retirement in 1977 as a basketball player. In his career, he scored a total of 8603 points and 5261 rebounds. On December 16, 1977, he became the first player in Denver, whose jersey number (# 40) was withdrawn.
