Byron Fidetzis

Byron Fidetzis (Greek Byron Fidetzis Βύρων Φιδετζής [ virɔn fiðɛdzis ]; * in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek cellist and conductor.

Fidetzis studied at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki cello and music theory. A scholarship enabled him to continue his studies at the Vienna Academy of Music, with Vladimir Orloff, André Navarra and Senta Benes in the violoncello, in conducting with Hans Swarovsky.

As a cellist, he has performed with orchestras all Greek, but also with numerous orchestras throughout Europe. From 1985 to 1992 he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Greek National Opera of Athens, the Athens State Orchestra since 1987. 1990 to 1992 he was chief conductor of the National Orchestra in Yekaterinburg, since 1992, he regularly conducts the Chapel of Russia in Moscow.

The special significance of his work lies in the recording of more than 20 recordings with music by Greek composers, including only eight complete recordings of operas of the composer Pavlos Carrer, Spyros Samaras, Manolis Kalomiris and Dimitri Mitropoulos, the entire symphonic work by Ioannis Konstantinidis and numerous works Nikos Skalkottas '. As a chamber musician, he was involved in the reconstruction and recording of works Emilio Riadis ' and many other composers.

Since 1991 Fidetzis teaches musicology at the University of Athens, the Athens Academy honored him with the Spyros - Motsenigos price.
