C-card

A certified diver or diving badge, also known as certification is proof of successful completion of training as a scuba diver. Divers document generally conducted dives in a logbook. Diving certification and logbook are used to document the training level of the diver.

Diving certificates are issued by different diving organizations, diving schools and clubs, but are not official documents. The most important global training organizations are PADI, SSI, CMAS and NAUI. The training of all four organizations comply with the Vorggaben the international standards ISO 24801 and 24802, which is why the diving licenses of the other organizations will recognize and a diving school, a training can start at another diving organization problems. When issued by local trainers without organizational affiliation diving certificates, there may be problems with the recognition.

In addition to the civilian diving certificates, there are also military, some of which are comparable with the civilian training or go far beyond them.

Different types of diving certificates demonstrate the level of training of the diver. You certify divers such as adequate skills to dive without a dive master to go below certain depths or to lead dive groups. Since it is not to official documents in the popular diving certificates for scuba divers, they are only recommendations and the contents and gradations vary depending on issuing organization considerably.

This documentation serves dive centers and partners to evaluate if a diver is able to participate in a planned dive. Diving centers usually make the rental of diving equipment and participation in diving excursions and diving trips dependent on a diving certificate, a logbook and a medical certificate on the fitness for diving is presented.

Brevet comparison

Almost every dive organizations has their own names for the various Brevetierungsstufen. In addition to the names their contents and associated conditions may differ. A direct comparison between the different organizations and their brevets is thus limited. For reference, the normalized EUF Policies & are used in the following.

The following table is a tool and is no basis for the issuance of equivalent certifications. Such can be done by an instructor only after an assessment of the diver. This may if necessary request a freshening or additional training by a diver and perform.

The certifications from CMAS some sub- associations (eg VDST ) may differ significantly from the requirements of CMAS, since the individual sub - groups have the opportunity to offer different courses.

Zusatzbrevets

Many dive organizations offer additional training for further qualifications, such as night diving, deep diving, underwater orienteering, dry suit diving, cave diving, ice diving, diving with Nitrox, with circulatory diving apparatus ( rebreathers ), Disabled Diving, Children diving, drift diving, altitude diving. Moreover interests of divers, such as underwater photography, Unterwasservideografie, freshwater biology or marine biology are covered by courses. The acquisition of such Zusatzbrevets may be a prerequisite for admission to further training.

Apnea brevets

In contrast to the scuba diving licenses for freediving are even less common.

The CMAS offers here three brevets ( CMAS Level 1, 2 and 3). Here, too, may differ from the individual Federations.

With PADI, the training is divided into two certifications: PADI Freediver (Level 1) and PADI Advanced Freediver ( Level 2).

From SSI there are four normal levels ( Basic and Freediving Freediving Level 1, 2 and 3) and three levels of instructor ( Freediving Instructor 1, 2 and 3).

Criticism

Critics especially from commercial training organizations to pursue with the issue numerous different Brevetierungstufen primarily material interests. It will the student diver gives the illusion especially in the lower levels, he could already appear good, by the importance of courses and examinations over the diving practice and consistent practice is lifted.

In contrast, commercial training organizations represented the view that it all came down to making the experience of the underwater world widely accessible to strengthen, inter alia, the interest in the protection and preservation of the same. A lower inhibition threshold for entry into the sport is here realized that even in the entry-level courses only the bare minimum is taught to dive safely under appropriate conditions. The modular alignment just the associations of American origin (eg PADI, SSI) is always taught only one substance (eg, scuba diving ) is necessary for the corresponding stage and the corresponding type of diving. Beginners are advised (and the instructor are encouraged, particularly to emphasize this ), that they should not dive under conditions that are more challenging than those under which they have learned.

This logic close to, ultimately, many others are not commercially oriented organizations (eg VDST and other members of the CMAS ) in parts to by providing appropriate special courses dealing intensively with the respective sub- regions.
