The construction of the ships took place in the years 1976 to 1981. As the first ships were asked Indienst, they were the largest ferries in the world. Three of the ships two more ships emerged already in 1976 built and then again in 1981. Built they were all in Vancouver. The construction of each of the ships at that time cost about 20 million Canadian dollars ( CAD). The ships are largely identical. Only the Queen of Alberni is through a slightly different construction program in 1984 and the resulting consequences for the mid-life building program slightly smaller (1200 passengers and 295 vehicles)

Midlife - building program

In the years 1999 and between 2003 and 2006 the ships were taken successively from the line operation. As part of a mid-life program, the ships have been revised for an additional 20 years of operation. The reconstruction or renovation cost 20 to 30 -million per ship.
