C. J. Hambro

Carl Joachim Hambro ( born January 5, 1885 in Bergen, † December 15, 1964 in Oslo) was a Norwegian conservative politician and journalist.

Hambro was a member of the Norwegian Parliament from 1919 to 1940 and from 1945 to 1957 and served from 1926 to 1940 as President of the Parliament. He was also president of the Plenary Assembly of the League of Nations in the years 1939 and 1946.

Hambro was chairman of the Conservative Party Høyre 1926 to 1934 and again from 1950 until 1954. He was a member from 1940 to 1963 the Norwegian Nobel Committee to. He was also a member of the Norwegian Academy for Language and Literature and recipient of the Order of St. Olav ( Grand Cross ) and the Finnish Order of the White Rose.

He was the father of Edvard Hambro, President of the UN General Assembly 1970 /71.
