C. W. Kahles

Charles William Kahles ( born January 12, 1878 in Lengfurt; † January 21, 1931 in Great Neck, Long Iceland, New York) was an American cartoonist and author of German origin.

As Kahles was six years old, his family emigrated to the United States, where he grew up in Brooklyn. Later he studied at the Pratt Institute and at the Brooklyn Art School. In New York Recorder or in the New York Journal, he published when he was 16 years old, his first drawings. In the New York World, he published The Little Red School House 1899, his first comic book series.

His most famous strip was Hairbreadth Harry, he began as a Sunday page in 1906 and also appeared as a daily strip from 1923 until his death. More Strips Kahles ' were Butch the Butcher 's Boy, Optimistic Oswald, Billy Bounce and The Kelly Kids. The latter was acquired during the lifetime Kahles ' by Lyman Young.
