C.D. Marathón

Club Deportivo Marathón is a football club from San Pedro Sula, Honduras and plays in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras, the highest football league in the country.

History

Club Deportivo Marathón was founded on 25 November 1925 in San Pedro Sula by Eloy Montes and a group of his friends. Since that time the club has so far 6 times to win the championship.

Marathón is now one of the most prestigious clubs in Honduras. Players like Maynor René Suazo or David Suazo played here in their youth.

Since 1925 there is a rivalry with Club Deportivo Olimpia, which is known as the Clasico Nacional (National Derby). This game is also the rivalry again between the two largest cities in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.

In the near future, Marathón will be the only club in Honduras, which has its own stadium. All the other stadiums in the league are owned by the municipalities.
