C.G.P.

CGP is a crossover album of American guitarist Chet Atkins in 1988 and was for Columbia Records produced by Chet Atkins, David Hungate, Daryl Dybka.

It marks a stylistic transition from the country music of the early Chet Atkins to the processing of influences from jazz and rock music. This development is underlined by the choice of the musicians involved, including jazz veteran Daryl Dybka, bassist David Hungate, the founding member of the Californian rock band Toto was, or rock guitarist Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. The instrumentation follows, for example, with the use of drum machines this approach.

The letters C.G.P. are an acronym, meaning Certified Guitar Player, a term of respect that has Atkins himself and later awarded five other guitarists: John Knowles, Tommy Emmanuel, Jerry Reed, Steve and Paul Yandell Warine.
