C.S. Marítimo de Venezuela

Club Sport Marítimo is a former Venezuelan football club based in Caracas. The club was founded in 1959 and was its home games at the Estadio Brígido Iriarte, which seats 10,000 spectators. Club Sport Marítimo won four Venezuelan football champion and 1995 dissolved. Recently there have been efforts to set up the club again.

History

The Club Sport Marítimo was founded in 1959 by Portuguese immigrants in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. The immigrants came from the island of Madeira, on the football club Marítimo Funchal is located. Based on this association, the club Club Sport Marítimo name, often just Marítimo Caracas was born. First, the newly founded association played in lower divisions of the Venezuelan football for many years without any real success.

In 1985 Club Sport Marítimo managed by a first rank in the Segunda División, the second highest league in Venezuela, División the initial jump in the Primera. In the first division, the club was able to establish quickly and was in the second Erstligasaison first Venezuelan football champions. This was three more times, 1987/88, 1989/90 and 1992 /93. Furthermore, it was in the years 1987 and 1989, the Venezuelan cup competition, Copa Venezuela, are obtained. In his most successful Club Sport Marítimo time took a total of five times in the Copa Libertadores, the most important competition for club teams in South America, in part. Only a few years after the last championship of Club Sport Marítimo came the demise of the club. After heavy financial problems Club Sport Marítimo in 1995 was dissolved and struck off the register of associations. In the following years was repeatedly worked at a start-up of the association, which also Marítimo Funchal strove to a resumption of the gaming operation of the partner association in Venezuela. So you thought about a merger of both clubs. In addition, a new training ground and football schools on behalf of Club Sport Marítimo was built in 2006.
