C/2001 Q4 (NEAT)

The comet C/2001 Q4 had an unusual, almost vertical retrograde orbit in the solar system that led him to a very southern path into the inner solar system.

For a long time he was seen near the south celestial pole. In 2004 we had the opportunity to observe in the southern hemisphere, as the comet brightness won when he came nearer perihelion. In early May, the comet wandered to the north and was visible in the maximum on the northern hemisphere.

The comet was discovered on 24 August 2001 by the Near Earth Asteroid Tracking Program (NEAT ).
