Cabarrus County, North Carolina
Cabarrus County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Concord.
The County lies to the west of the geographic center of North Carolina, is located in the southwest about 40 miles from South Carolina and has an area of 945 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rowan County, Stanly County, Union County, Mecklenburg County and Iredell County.
Cabarrus County is divided into 12 townships, which are numbered: 1 ( Harrisburg ), 2 ( Poplar Tent ), 3 ( Odell ), 4 ( Kannapolis ), 5 ( New Gilead ), 6 ( Rimertown ), 7 ( Gold Hill ) 8 ( Mount Pleasant ), 9 ( George Ville), 10 ( Midland ), 11 ( Central Cabarrus ) and 12 ( Concord ).
Cabarrus County was formed in 1792 from parts of Mecklenburg County. It was named after Stephen Cabarrus, a member of the government. 1799 Gold was discovered in the area, what the Noth Carolina gold rush triggered.
According to the census in 2000 lived in Cabarrus County 131 063 people in 49 519 households and 36 545 families. The population density was 139 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 83.26 percent White, 12.18 percent Black or African American, 0.34 percent Native American, 0.91 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 2.30 percent from other races groups; 0.99 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.05 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 49 519 households out of which 34.9 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.2 percent were married couples living together, 10.5 percent were single mothers and 26.2 percent were non-families. 21.8 percent of all households and 8.0 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.03.
25.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.1 percent 18 to 24 years 32.5 percent between 25 and 44, 22.1 percent between 45 and 64, and 11.6 percent were 86 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. In all females there were 97.0 males. In all women aged 18 and over, 94.1 males.
The median income for a household was $ 46,140, and the median income for a family was $ 53,692. Males had a median income of $ 36,714 versus $ 26,010 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,121. 7.1 percent of the population and 4.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. 8.3 percent of them are children and adolescents under age 18 and 9.6 percent are 65 years or older.
