Cabinentaxi

The Cabin taxi was a development project of the BMFT for a passenger transport system developed by a joint venture between Demag and Messerschmitt -Bolkow -Blohm (MBB ) was performed. The special feature was the implementation of a so-called personal rapid transit concept that ( PT ) with its trains running at a clock traffic schedule vehicles used in contrast to conventional public transport small, independent cabins, with which passengers individually fully automatic to order a non-stop reach their destination.

Concept

A concept for a cable car was built in the 1970s in Copenhagen by the engineer and project manager of Cabin taxis, Klaus -Dieter Becker, tested: The one-touch of the passengers should be done by entering a numeric code. In contrast to pure monorail or elevated railway, the electric-powered cars operate on two levels to allow for small room with a single guide rail both directions.

The cabins wrong with about 36 km / h on an elevated guideway, the two asynchronously operated Kurzstatormotoren ( linear motors) was driven in a horizontal double comb arrangement.

The Association Cabin taxi ( CAT) has researched and developed since 1970 together in the field of new systems for public transport in cities. Since 1 January 1972, this working group was encouraged by the then Federal Ministry of Research and development. In June 1972, a detailed project plan was presented, which has even been presented in the teaching of Hagen schools. Photomontages and films showed even the creative integration in the city. Core of the model was the city of Hagen, the 132- km length and 182 stations should take the lead role. Appropriate power plans were later attached to the test track .. Also, the areas of the upcoming 1975 municipal reorganization are already taken into account. Border districts should be accessible by public transport as a feeder. Designed capacity was of a total population of 400,000, which should have the space Hagen in 2000.

Test track

1973 was built a 150 m long test track in Hagen- porch and put into operation on September 6, solemnly. Just one year later, on 11 November 1974, the line was expanded circular to 1.5 km. Five cabins, three above and two below were used for the extensive testing. In October 1975 an additional twelve- person cabin was used. In 1976, the test track was extended to 1.9 km. She got a total of six stations ( including for maintenance and rescue cabins) and 24 cabins. The production stage was reached in 1981. Originally, an alternative mode of transport for the carriage of four, six, eight and twelve people and a variant for the freight to be created with the taxi cab, but it remained at the test track. The pilot plant was completely degraded in July 1981. Today this area is in agricultural use, only a fence and Entrance Signs of the test facility are yet to be seen.

A descendant of this development was in 1975 as a 578- m horizontal lift, called Cabin Lift, built in the district hospital goats grove for connecting the pre-and after-care clinic and remained until 2002.
