After the parliamentary elections of 17 June, the Cabinet Samaras formed on 21 June 2012, the new government of Greece ( ΦΕΚ A 141 /2012). It followed the Cabinet Pikrammenos that, officiated by the failed attempts after the elections of 6 May 2012 to form a majority government capable as a transitional government since 17 May 2012.

The government was initially supported by a coalition of New Democracy with PASOK and the Dimokratiki Aristera. The cabinet belonged to no politicians of the two left-wing parties.
