Cabo Girão

The Cabo Girão (Portuguese Cape of reversal) is a steep cliff in the south of Madeira, near the village of Câmara de Lobos. Its height is given as 560-589 m, so it is one of the highest cliffs of the European Union.

Below the cliff, and at the lower part of the slope, there are terraced fields.

The fields at the foot of the cliff were previously only accessible by boat, since August 2003, there is a cable car on a slope, which was originally created to facilitate the farmers work in the fields.

Popular amongst the tourists Cabo Girão as a vantage point and the starting point for paragliders.
