Cabrales is a Spanish municipality ( concejo in Asturias, corresponds to the municipio in the rest of Spain) in the autonomous community of Asturias, with its capital Carreña.

History
To the Middle Ages
The settlement in the region dates back to the Paleolithic cave paintings in the caves of Covaciella and El Bosque, as well as tool finds in the cave ( Cueva ) Las Canes prove this. It was not until about the year 722, the region is called again, pull through Moorish troops on the way to the Battle of Covadonga here.

In church documents the construction of the Iglesia ( church) is San Pedro detected in Camarmeña in the 12th century. In the 14th century the Concejo Cabrales is called the first time. Geography
The municipality has 2140 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) and covers an area of 238.29 km ². The largest peak is the Pico Mountain Torrecerredo with 2,648 m.
Land

Cabrales is from the rivers: Cares, Rio las Llanas, Rio Casaño, Rio Cerezo, Rio Terviña, Duje Rio, Rio Bulnes and many smaller mountain stream running through it. A large number of mountain lakes is similar to the Lago Enol in the Picos de Europa to find in the community.

Specialties of the Region
Famous the Cabrales region is characterized by its cheese, which is matured in caves of the high mountains. It is available in different ages, according to the sharpness of the cheese or seasoning.
Economy
Since time immemorial livestock (cattle goats and sheep) is the main livelihood of the community. Trade and production, takes place only in small and medium-sized businesses. The vast majority of workers are traveling as a commuter. The nature tourism is the last 20 years a growing source of revenue.
