Cadro

Cadro since April 14, 2013, a district of the city of Lugano in Lugano Circle North, in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

Geography

History

Cadro 735 was first mentioned as Cadelo. At the time of the Lombards, it was 854 testified in connection with the land Totoniden of Campione d' Italia as Vicus, which was then donated by the Lombard ruler pools of Campione in the Middle Ages to the Milanese monastery of Sant'Ambrogio. The Benedictine Abbey of Sant'Abbondio in Como and the hospital of Santa Maria in Lugano also possessed land in Cadro. Municipal autonomy

On 30 September 2007, the voters of Cadro rejected a merger with the neighboring city of Lugano with 585 against 542 votes. The communities Barbengo, Carabbia and Villa Luganese, however agreed to the annexation.

The community was their communal autonomy for the time being keep, because the Supreme Court has ruled on the complaint of some voters from Cadro that the canton of Ticino for the first time must declare an advisory vote as binding and that it may prescribe no forced merger in case of rejection of the merger by the voters.

A second referendum in 2012, however, was in favor of annexation, so the merger with Lugano entered into force on 14 April 2013.
