Cæremoniale Episcoporum

The Ceremonial of Bishops (Eng. " book of ceremonies of the bishops " ) contains normative statements about the acts of worship of a bishop according to the Roman Rite. It is the only liturgical book that contains only headings, so no biblical readings and prayers.

The " Ceremonial of Bishops " owes its existence to Charles Borromeo and presents an adaptation of the ceremony books for the Roman Pope and the cardinals, called the Ceremonial of the Roman, to the needs of a diocesan bishop dar. After preparatory work under the popes Gregory XIII. and Sixtus V, Pope Clement VIII, the first official edition in 1600 appear. Under his successors various changes were made. Altered editions published in 1650 under Innocent X and 1727 under Benedict XIII .. The new edition from 1742 by Benedict XIV added a Book III added, the contents of which concerned the Papal State. Pope Leo XIII. organized in 1886 a new typical edition, in, get, despite temporary loss of the Papal States, Book III remained.

The last time in 1948 reprinted edition of the typical edition of 1886 is entitled:

  • Caeremoniale episcoporum Clementi VIII, X Innocentii et St. Benedict XIII iussu editum, St. Benedict XIV et Leonis XIII auctoritate recognitum.

Through the liturgical reform of Pope Pius XII. Chapter lapsed have been replaced by:

  • Rite pontificalis Hebdomadae Sanctae instauratus. Typical edition of 1957.

When adopted by the 2nd Vatican Council general revision of the liturgical books was created under Pope Paul VI. today the authoritative revision:

  • Caeremoniale episcoporum ex Decreto Sacrosancti Oecumenici Concilii Vaticano II instauratum, auctoritate Pauli PP. VI promulgatum. Typis Polyglottis Vaticanis MXMLXXV.

The book came in 1975 with the imprint " Bozze di stampa " (Eng. proofs ) to the public. Legal force only gained the ( slightly modified ) edition of 1984:
