Café del Mar

The Café del Mar is located on the seafront café in Sant Antoni de Portmany in Cala des Moro in Ibiza. It was opened after two years of construction on June 20, 1980. The architecture and interiors took over the Catalan architect Lluis Güell. It is best known for his eponymous Soul House and Chill Out compilations that have been recorded by the then Resident DJ José Padilla to 1997 and later continued by his successor Bruno Lepetre, as well as a trance club hit in 1993 by Energy 52 The rights for the use of the name Café del Mar for their phonograms acquired the record company Café del Mar Music, founded in Sant Antoni de Portmany 1998.

The CDs are pieces by artists such as Jose Padilla, Afterlife, A Man Called Adam, Underworld, Lamb, Mandalay, Moby, Goldfrapp, Dido, Michael Hornstein or Rue Du Soleil.

Every year opens the Café del Mar, one of the first " Local Scene " on Ibiza on Good Friday and closes the season normally starting in the first week of November. In winter the Café del Mar is closed. The opening begins at 17 clock, with the most visitors ( in the summer season several thousand per day) just before sunset gather on the terrace and the rocks in front of the Café del Mar, to witness the legendary Ibiza Sunset, a sunset, which mostly with a big round of applause all visitors ends.

In 2005, the Café del Mar celebrated the 25th anniversary, to which it invited four international cafe- del -Mar - artists to play there live on big festival stage by the sea. Represented were D.A.B. (Spain ), Tom Oliver ( Germany - even at the 25th Anniversario CD), Paco Fernandez (Spain) and La Caina (France).
