Cagayan Valley or Region II (Filipino: Lambak ng Cagayan ) is a Filipino region in the north of the island of Luzon.

The administrative center is Tuguegarao.

For the region include five provinces:

  • The island province of Batanes (area 219.01 km ², 15,974 Einwohner/2007 ) north of Luzon
  • Cagayan ( 9295.75 km ², 1,072,571 ) on the north coast of Luzon
  • Isabela ( 12414.93 km ², 1,401,495 ) on the east coast of Luzon
  • Nueva Vizcaya ( 3975.65 km ², 397 837 ) in the Southwest Region
  • Quirino ( 2323.47 km ², 327 123 ) in the south of the region

With 4 cities:

  • Tuguegarao ( Cagayan )
  • Cauayan ( Isabela )
  • Ilagan City
  • Santiago City autonomous county-level city

Geography

The region is located mainly in a large valley between the two mountain ranges of Sierra Madre and the Cordilleras. In the south, the Caraballo Mountains, where the river of the same Cagayan has its main headwaters rise. He is the longest river of the district and flows through a long and wide valley in the north, which gave its name to the region. Other major rivers are the Abulug and the Rio Chico. In the valley of the Magat Rivers, in the southwest of the region, is the Magat Dam, the hydroelectric plant has a power output of 381 megawatts.

For administrative territory of the region include the Batanes island groups and the Babuyan Islands in the Luzon Strait. The eastern coast of the region lies on the Philippine Sea. In the region there are five active volcanoes of Camiguin de Babuyanes, Didicas, Babuyan Claro, Smith Volcano and the Cagua.

Attractions

  • The San Mattias Church in the community Tumauini ( Isabela Province ) and the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park are on the list of proposals for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2006.
  • The archaeological sites in the Cagayan Valley, which lie in the region, are also on the short list of the Philippines for inclusion in the World Heritage list of UNESCO since 2006.
  • In Gamu are the St. Rose de Lima Church, St. Claire Monastery and the Shrine of Our Lady of the Visitation of Guibang.
