Cahal Pech

The Mayan ruins of Cahal Pech are located near the village of San Ignacio in Belize (Central America). The current name of the city comes from a combination of the Yucateco and Mopan Maya language and means "Place of Ticks ".

Was first settled Cahal Pech around 1000 BC, but most of the buildings and temples are from the Präklassik (300 BC to 250 AD ), and Classic ( 500-700 AD). In addition to the spiritual buildings and residential buildings were found in two Cahal Pech Mayan ball courts as well as several non-processed stelae and probably a sweat bath. Against 800 AD Cahal Pech was abandoned.

The city was discovered in the fifties of the 20th century and is explored ever since.
