Cai Lun

Cai Lun (Chinese蔡伦, Pinyin Cai Lun, Ts'ai Lun W.-G.; * 50, † 121 ), was a eunuch official of the Authority for manufacture of tools and weapons at the Chinese imperial court in Guiyang in the province Hunan under Emperor He.

Cai Lun documented around 105 AD paper production in the eastern Han Empire and is considered the inventor of the paper, although it is established that there has been BC paper since the 2nd century. He describes the unlocking ( lignins and incrustations ) from plant fibers ( Ramiegras, bamboo grass or mulberry bast ) and rags ( rags ) and the method of " felting " by scooping with a mold.

On August 2, 2010, the lunar crater Cai Lun was named after him.
