The Cairngorms ( engl. The Cairngorms or Cairngorm Mountains, named after the summit Cairn Gorm; schott Gaelic: On Monadh Ruadh, " the red mountains ") is a mountain range of the Grampian Mountains in the northeast of Scotland.

Survey

Five of the ten highest mountains in Scotland and Britain's standing there with several other peaks over 1,000 meters form the Cairngorms the largest high mountain like a mountain group of the British Isles, although the much smaller Ben Nevis Group is a few meters higher. Highest peak with 1309 m is the Ben MacDhui, at the same time the second highest mountain in Scotland and the UK. In the Cairngorms the River Dee and some tributaries of the Spey, namesake of whiskey Speyside springs.
