Essential Cajeput oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and smaller branches of the Cajeputbaumes ( Melaleuca leucadendra ). The oil has a scent reminiscent of eucalyptus is a strong antiseptic and contains highly terpenes. Cajeput is a main component of the Olbasöls.

The colorless, water-insoluble liquid of density 0.92 g · cm -3 is primarily ( 50-60 percent) of eucalyptol; in addition, L- pinene, terpineol and several aldehydes.

The name is German for Cajeput of Kayuputi, which has its origin in Sulawesi (Indonesia) and " white wood " means. According to the name in English is cajuput oil.
