Cák

Cák ( German: Pink Bach) is located on the slopes of the mountains Günser a Hungarian village near the Austrian border, four kilometers south-west of Kőszeg ( Güns ).

History

In Cák tombs have been found from the Roman period; documented the place was first mentioned in 1279 as Villa Chak. The Turks destroyed the village in 1532, and burned in 1573 and 1606 Christian soldiers the place down.

The inhabitants occupied themselves with orchards and vineyards, where the phylloxera invasion in the 19th century but caused major damage. While it is the wine was rebuilt, but most residents were already living on chestnuts and fruit growing. The old wine cellar but are under monument protection. North of the village there is an old quarry.

The community has about 294 inhabitants.
