Breeding history

The features of the Calabrese developed by introgression of Arabs and Andalusians. The breed originated in the province of Calabria in southern Italy. In the Middle Ages Calabrese was used as a riding animal of the knights. Until the 18th century, the existence of the race went very back, but from the mid- 18th to mid-19th century, the inventory has been refreshed with new cross-breeding with Arabs and Andalusians. From the 20th century, other breeds such as the Thoroughbred, Arab, Andalusian and Hackney are co-fed. These can allow the original type of the Baroque horse and it developed into a modern sport horse.
