Calascibetta
Calascibetta is a municipality in the province of Enna in Sicily region of Italy with 4575 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Calascibetta located 6 km north of Enna and covers an area of 88.18 km ². The main occupation of the inhabitants is agriculture. Work also offer the quarries in the area.
The neighboring municipalities are Bompietro (PA ), Enna, Gangi (PA ), Leon Forte, Nicosia and Villa Rosa.
History
The area around the site has been inhabited since prehistoric times Calascibetta. Necropolis dating from the 9th century BC to the 5th century BC show it. The Arabs built a fort, hence the name Kalet ( fort ) and Scibet, which is derived the modern place name. In the 11th century, the city has been greatly expanded.
