Calcata

Calcata is a municipality with a population of 935 (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Viterbo in the Italian region of Lazio.

Geography

Calcata located 43 km north of Rome and 51 km south-east of Viterbo. It is in the volcanic hills of the southern Tuscia, with its deep valleys, the historic landscape of the Faliscans. Calcata consists of the districts Calcata Nuova and the medieval Calcata Vecchia, which is spectacularly located on a rocky promontory above the steep Trejatal. Calcata is the center of the Natural Park Valle del Treja.

Calcata is connected via the Strada Stadale 2 Via Cassia, exit Sette vein with the road network.

The neighboring municipalities are Faleria, Magliano Romano (RM ), Mazzano Romano (RM) and Rignano Flaminio (RM )

Calcata carries the Orange Flag, a seal of quality in the field of tourism and the environment of the TCI.

History

Calcata is first mentioned in a document from the time of Hadrian I ( 772-795 ). It came into the possession of the noble family of Anguillara that the location enclosed in the 13th century by a city wall and the Baron's Castle built.

The story of Calcata is closely connected with the history of the relic of the Holy Foreskin.

Luciano Sestili ( PdL ) was elected in June 2004 to the Mayor and confirmed in June 2009 at the office. His center-right list is also available with 8 of 12 seats, the majority in the City Council.
