Calcidiol (also calcifediol or 25 -hydroxy- vitamin D) is a hormone precursor in vitamin D metabolism, which is formed in the liver by the vitamin D 25 - hydroxylase from cholecalciferol. In the kidney, further, the conversion to the steroid hormone calcitriol. Both calcidiol and calcitriol were identified by Michael F. Holick.
