Calcinato

Calcinato is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 12,846 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. The community is located about 17 kilometers southeast of Brescia, on the eastern shore of the Chiese. The lake is approximately 9 kilometers northeast of Calcinato. The community is directly adjacent to the province of Mantua.

History

Through the area withdrew in antiquity a Roman road. In the Middle Ages, the area belonged to the Benedictine Abbey of Nonantola ( from 813 ). 1426 came Calcinato then to the Republic of Venice. 1706, the Battle of Calcinato took place here. Were the subject of the disputes over the Spanish Succession.

Traffic

Calcinato lies south of the A4 motorway from Turin to Trieste. However, a connection does not exist. On the railway line Milan - Venice, in the section Brescia -Verona, is the railway station of Ponte San Marco and Calcinato. This is located in Ponte San Marco, a district Calcinatos. North of Ponte San Marco also runs the Strada Statale 11 Padana Superiore.
