Calcium ammonium nitrate

Calcium Ammonium Nitrate is a nitrogen fertilizer with 26% N and 10 % Ca. It consists of a mixture of 76% NH4NO3 ( ammonium nitrate) and 24% CaCO3 (calcium carbonate). Nitrogen is a main feeding element in plant nutrition.

The above-mentioned contents in percent are commercially available. The guaranteed minimum nitrogen content is 22%. Depending on the manufacturing process may carbonate of lime, carbonate, dolomite or 5-6% carbonate of magnesium, even in mixtures, lead to a slightly different composition of the fertilizer.

Calcium ammonium nitrate is used in agriculture as the main N fertilizer. On contact with water, the ammonium nitrate dissolves endothermic. As nitrate fertilizer he has a rapid initial effect is complemented by the nitrification of the nitrogen content of the ammonium gradually. The bodenversauernde effect of N units is compensated by the contained lime.
