Calder Memorial Trophy

The Calder Memorial Trophy is an ice hockey trophy in the National Hockey League ( NHL). It is awarded annually to the best league Newcomer ( rookie ).

For the first time in the NHL season 1932/33, a rookie -of-the -year- award awarded, but only later became a trophy created this honor. The trophy was when it was introduced in the season 1936/37, Calder Trophy and was named after Frank Calder, the first and then current President of the NHL. After Calder's sudden death in 1943, the trophy was renamed the Calder Memorial Trophy.

Award

To count for the award of the trophy as a rookie, fielders must be at least half of the games of the regular season ( since 1995/ 96, the 41 ) in the corresponding season have graduated, goalkeeper must have been in at least 25 matches on the ice. Additionally, players not more than 25 games may have graduated in a previous season still more than six per game in the previous two seasons. This scheme includes not only the NHL, but any professional league. Almost 70 % of the previous winners of the Calder Memorial Trophy come from Canada. Then with the U.S., Russia, Sweden and Finland follow only four other nations, from which at least two players were honored as the best rookie in the NHL. All winners of the Calder Memorial Trophy have been selected simultaneously into NHL All- Rookie Team. The only exception was Pavel Bure in 1992.
