Caldwell County (North Carolina)

Caldwell County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lenoir, named for William Lenoir, a general in the American Revolutionary War.

Geography

The County is located in western North Carolina, is about 30 km from Tennessee and has an area of ​​1228 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Watauga County, Wilkes County, Alexander County, Catawba County, Burke County and Avery County.

Caldwell County is divided into 13 townships: Globe, Hudson River, Johns River, Kings Creek, Lenoir, Little River, Lovelady, Lower Creek, Mulberry, North Catawba, Patterson, Wilson Creek and Yadkin Valley.

History

Caldwell County was formed in 1841 from parts of Burke County and Wilkes County. It was named after Joseph Caldwell, the first president of the University of North Carolina.
