Calgary Cowboys

The Calgary Cowboys were an ice hockey team from Calgary, Alberta, that was active from 1975 to 1977 in the North American World Hockey Association (WHA ). The franchise was originally founded in 1972 as the Miami Screaming Eagles, but never played there. After a year in Philadelphia, the team moved in 1973 to Vancouver, where he played for two years as Vancouver Blazers.

History

Once in Vancouver attendances had fallen to 8,000, the owner of Jim Pattison, the team decided according to the 1975/76 season to relocate to Calgary. The new name for the team that played at the Calgary Corral was Calgary Cowboys based on the rodeo takes place every year show. The stadium provided only about 8,700 spectators.

In the first year the Cowboys were led by leading scorer Danny Lawson, who was in Philadelphia with the team since the time to reach the playoffs and got there even in the second round. However, the number of audience was just under 5,000. The 1976/77 season was a big disappointment. Home were the Cowboys strong in foreign stadiums they succeeded but hardly convincing. In the weakest team of the season, the Phoenix Roadrunners, they won all three games from the remaining games but only two were won in foreign stages. Towards the end of the season they had then yet Danny Lawson. Only four points were missing for playoff participation but the future was seriously threatened. A move to Ottawa, where already two previous teams had failed, rejected the league. Now you put a mark for season tickets that you wanted to accomplish in order to continue the operation of gambling. When this was not achieved until the end of May 1977, the team was disbanded.
