Geography

The County is located in northeast Alabama, is in the east about 40 km away from Georgia and has an area of ​​1586 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers of water surface. History

Calhoun County was on December 18, 1832 from parts of the former Creek Indians belonging to the country as a Benton County named, made by Thomas Hart Benton. On January 29, 1858 has been renamed to the present name, in honor of John C. Calhoun, the seventh seventh Vice-President of the United States, from South Carolina. The first was the county seat in Jacksonville. Since 1899 it is Anniston.
