Calhoun County (South Carolina)

Calhoun County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), Saint Matthews.

Geography

The County is located near the geographical center of South Carolina and has an area of 1016 square kilometers, of which 31 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Richland County, Sumter County, Clarendon County, Orangeburg County and Lexington County.

History

Calhoun County was formed in 1908. It was named for John C. Calhoun, 7th Vice President of the United States from 1825 to 1832 under Presidents John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson and long-time U.S. Senator.
