Calico, San Bernardino County, California

Calico Ghost Town is a ghost town in the Mojave Desert in Southern California (USA). From Los Angeles via Interstate 15 coming, follows on the left side in the mountains of lettering CALICO. The city was founded in 1881 in the wake of silver mining. Her best times were about 1,200 people in Calico and there were over 500 mines.

Towards the end of the 19th century, the price of silver fell into the basement. The mines were no longer economically and the city was consequently abandoned. On July 24, 2001, part of the building burned down at night, probably after a short circuit in one of the buildings. As early as the 19th century, every fifth building had to be built as a fire clay, this fire could not wreak havoc.

Some buildings from that era have been preserved and can be visited together with replicas today. A visit of mines or the experience of " Wild West Shows" is possible. In addition, a campsite below the Ghost Town is created, its use also entitled to admission to the museum. After renovation, the replicas and the almost invariably housed therein shops but Calico is more like an open air museum as an original settlement.
