California Guitar Trio

The California Guitar Trio or short CGT is an instrumental band consisting of three guitarists, which was founded in 1991.

Band History

Paul Richards of Salt Lake City, Bert Lams of Brussels and Hideyo Moriya of Tokyo first met in England in 1987 with a Guitar Craft course under the direction of Robert Fripp know. After they had completed several of these recognized courses, they went with Fripp's League of Crafty Guitarists until its dissolution on a world tour. With the desire for further cooperation settled the three in Los Angeles and in 1991 founded the California Guitar Trio, with whom she henceforth created a mix of original compositions, surf covers, and classical music edits.

Their influences cover a range from the fields of classical, rock, blues, jazz, world music, bluegrass, and, as an essential Californian style of music, surf music. The rules than virtuosic and presented with a touch of humor performances are aimed primarily at an audience from the handset circles of progressive rock, acoustic music and classical music.

Music of the CGT came as background music for the coverage of the Olympic Games of 1998 and 2000 on the American broadcasters CBS, NBC, CNN World Beat, ESPN TV used. On Tony Levin's CD Pieces of the Sun, the CGT played the title Apollo, who was nominated in 2003 for a Grammy Award. Music of the CGT was broadcast as a wake-up call to the crew of NASA's space shuttle Endeavour into space.

One of the names by which the California Guitar Trio stood on a stage, include King Crimson, John McLaughlin, David Sylvian, Tito Puente, Leftover Salmon, Taj Mahal, Steve Lukather, Simon Phillips, Adrian Legg, Tony Levin, Jon Anderson, Rick Wakeman and more.

Since the establishment of twelve CDs were released: seven studio albums with original compositions and classical adaptations such as the Toccata and Fugue in D minor BWV 565 and the beginning of Beethoven's 5th Symphony, four live albums and a Christmas album with well-known and lesser-known Christmas music.
